Manhattan Working: Videos, Audio from Box 1568, Numerous Calls

“Battalion one-six, we’ve got reports of people jumping out windows,”

Box 1568 was transmitted for the reported fire in a multiple dwelling on 18 August 2014. Multiple calls reported fire also in 506 and 508. The Manhattan dispatcher also gave the Battalion 19 chief additional reports of people trapped in the fire apartment and people jumping.

Fire was initially reported on the third floor. Progress reports also stated fire on the first, second and fourth floors as well. Incident quickly went to four-alarms and was reported as “Probably Will Hold” at roughly an hour and a half after initial alarm. One occupant was killed and two others injured. 10 firefighters also reportedly suffered minor injuries. 6th Division chief was the incident commander after the second-alarm. Engine Company 80 and Ladder Company 23 were first-due.
